River in Owyhee County, Idaho. Idaho's defining river, here in its southwestern reach near Murphy and the C.J. Strike Reservoir area, holds one of the healthiest white sturgeon populations in the state (catch-and-release only), plus strong smallmouth bass, channel catfish, rainbow trout, and crappie. The Snake is the largest tributary of the Columbia. Below dams the water runs cool; broad lowland reaches warm in summer.
