Chena River, AK
River in Fairbanks North Star Borough County, Alaska. A clearwater Interior Alaska river flowing roughly 100 miles through Fairbanks to join the Tanana River, and the most popular sport-fishing stream in Interior Alaska. Best known for Arctic grayling, which are managed catch-and-release in the upper river after historic overharvest, along with northern pike, burbot, Arctic char/Dolly Varden, and runs of Chinook and coho salmon in summer. The clear, fly-friendly upper Chena within the Chena River State Recreation Area offers classic grayling water far from the glacial rivers of the south.
