The Wind River drains the east slope of the Wind River and Absaroka ranges through the Wind River Indian Reservation and the Riverton valley before entering Boysen Reservoir. The upper river above Boysen offers wade and float trout fishing for rainbow, brown, brook, and Yellowstone cutthroat trout, while the lower valley near Riverton holds trout plus walleye and sauger moving up from Boysen. Tribal permits are required on reservation water. Elevation roughly 5,000 ft at Riverton.
