New River (New River Gorge), WV
River in Fayette County, West Virginia. One of the oldest rivers in North America, the New flows north through a deep, scenic gorge within New River Gorge National Park & Preserve in Fayette and Raleigh counties. It is West Virginia's premier smallmouth bass river and also holds muskellunge, walleye, rock bass, and channel and flathead catfish. Big, boulder-strewn pools and pocket water make it a wading and float-fishing destination. A special slot limit protects trophy-class smallmouth, and a 12-mile section is catch-and-release for bass.
