Wood River, RI

River in Washington County, Rhode Island. A clear, cold-water river running through the Arcadia Management Area in western Rhode Island, regarded as the state's finest trout stream. The Wood is stocked heavily with rainbow, brown, and brook trout and holds wild brook trout in its upper reaches, plus chain pickerel and panfish in slower pools. It joins the Pawcatuck River at Wood River Junction. A live USGS gauge at Hope Valley reports streamflow. Spring stocking and fall cool-down are the prime windows.
