An ancient north-flowing river through southwest Virginia, the New is nationally renowned for trophy smallmouth bass and muskellunge. Smallmouth fishing is excellent spring through fall on float and wade sections; walleye and catfish add depth to the fishery. Numerous boat ramps from Mouth of Wilson to Glen Lyn serve long float trips.
